Let Nature dazzle your senses.

Experience the magnificent Pacific Rim National Park and the Villages of Ucluelet and Tofino, where the world’s biggest Ocean comes face to face with the world’s most beautiful coastline.

Whether you enjoy a rainforest walk, beachcombing, bird watching, galleries or museums, here is an adventure nature tour for you! Explore the rainforest, surf swept sandy west coast beaches, rugged coastline, quaint picturesque villages and shops. Winter storm watching near Amphitrite Point Lighthouse is unforgettable. Eagles, harlequin ducks, oyster catchers, seals, otters and whales are sometimes seen from the trail.

Denman Island, known for it’s tranquil countryside and its population of talented artisans’ sits just off the east coast of Vancouver Island. Denman’s residents produce an abundance of inspired arts and crafts that has helped earn the small Gulf Island an esteemed reputation far and wide. We have picked some of the cream of the crop for pottery, sculpture, watercolor and jewelry of Denman Island artisans. There are sandy beaches, rocky coves, hiking trails, lush forests and picture-perfect farmlands to enjoy. The beauty of Denman’s natural environment appeals to artists and outdoor enthusiasts. One can closely observe deer, pheasants, herons, hawks and the majestic bald eagle! We will explore and discover huge old growth fir and cedar trees, fern gullies, a native midden and a peaceful meadow surrounded by beautiful heritage trees. We will follow an easy walking trail along a salmon stream and spend some time beach-combing.

Authentic Aboriginal Cultural & Natural History Tour

Break away from the mainstream travel options and explore Vancouver Island and its culture in a new and truly adventurous manner. Pacific Rainforest Adventure Tours offers an authentic aboriginal experience with the Spirit of the Animal Kingdom Tour. Discover the tradition and culture of Vancouver Island on a half-day tour departing from Parksville to Cathedral Grove where Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations guide Tom Sewid; grandson of author James Aul Sewid (“Guests Never Leave Hungry”) dressed in traditional regalia and masks tells the legends that go back thousands of years.

Delight in the exceptional and awesome experience of standing next to trees 250 feet tall, 9 feet in diameter that are over 800 years old. See culturally modified trees, hear how First Nations used and respected the forests for thousands of years and learn about the tree of life with the versatile inner bark that is woven into intricately patterned mats and baskets, plied into rope and processed to make the soft, warm, yet water-repellent clothing so well suited to the raincoast.

Included in this tour is a stop at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Center where First Nation’s guide Tom Sewid will explain the legend of the white raven and will elaborate on the First Nations perspectives of many other birds. You will also have time to enjoy the Museum of Nature and visit Canada’s largest eagle flight enclosure to see eagles that are being rehabilitated to be released back to the wild.

1 pm – 5 pm
Minimum 6 people.
Cost: $90.00 pp. Cdn. plus HST
Staying in Vancouver ? Pick up and return to Nanaimo is available.

Discover the marine life in the intertidal zones where the biological riches of the Salish Sea are a result of the daily and seasonal mixing of waters. On this 2 to 3 hour tide pool excursion you will observe how the marine plants and animals share their environment where survival is a constant challenge.

The peaceful pulse of the lapping waves and the sounds of nature all contribute to the ambience of this special seashore location. You can interact with a variety of wild creatures in one of nature’s most fascinating places where ocean water and land meet.

Every tide pool walk is exciting because there is always something different to discover. One highlight is the Ring-spotted Doris. Found in the lower intertidal zone and subtidal waters on rocky shores and crevices, the Ring-spotted Doris is a Nudibranch (pronounced NEWD-i-brank) belongs to the Mollusks group, and the class Gastropod.

The Ring- spotted Doris (Discodoris Sandiegensis) varies in appearance from Alaska to Southern California. In our Salish Sea waters this nudibranch is marked with many spots and rings on a creamy to tan coloured base compared to the to the ones in San Francisco that are almost white with fewer markings.

They are carnivorous and eat anemones, bryozoans and their favorite food are purple sponges. It is both male & female. Following mating with another individual they lay a curly ribbon of white eggs in protected nooks and crannies. They only live a maximum of one year
