Killer Whale Watching and Nature Tour
An educational, fun experience with naturalist guides who will explain the flora, fauna and ethnobotany of the area, as well as give you tips on where you can find other exciting places to visit along the way. We arrive in Telegraph Cove in time to visit the incredible Whale Center and enjoy lunch before we board the Lukwa, a 60 foot vessel designed for whale watching. We are accompanied by a Marine Biologist who will explain what we are seeing during the voyage and talk about what they know about whales. We cruise the protected waters of Johnstone Strait and the Blackfish Archipelago with an experienced, expert skipper. This area is acknowledged as the most predictable location to see Orca (Killer Whale) in the world. Although we have a success rate of over 90%, we can never guarantee sightings as these are wild animals in their natural habitat. Dall’s porpoises, harbour porpoises, pacific white sided dolphins, sea lions, seals, minke whales, humpback whales and grey whales are some of the marine mammals we may see in this beautiful area during our nature cruise. The Robson Bight Ecological Reserve is the only place in the world where Killer Whales rub themselves on the round pebbles of the beach. The hydrophone (underwater microphone) lets us hear the vocalization of the whales while we are watching them in their wild habitat. For bird watchers, some of the migrating bird species seen here are; bald eagles, rhinoceros auklets, pigeon guillemots, Harlequin ducks, sooty shearwaters and mergansers. This is an educational and fun trip for wildlife enthusiasts of all ages. Also included is dinner at a funky cookhouse with fabulous food and incredible homemade deserts. This is truly an experience unique in this world.
